A compiled programming language is a programming language which is compiled. When a language is compiled it is converted from one programming language, to another. For example, assembly language is just machine code with the opcodes exchanged for words (and vice versa). Languages are compiled by a compiler. Most compilers take the code, convert to machine code (or the target language), and store the resulting executable in a file.
