Cy Young (athlete)
Cyrus Charles Young (July 23, 1928 – December 6, 2017) was an American athlete. He was born in Modesto, California. He competed mainly in the javelin throw. He studied at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He was the first non-European man to win the gold medal in the javelin throw in the Olympics in 1952, and – through the 2012 London Olympics – he remains the only American male to earn Olympic gold in the event.
Young died in Modesto on December 6, 2017 of vascular dementia at the age of 89.[1]
