David Gulpilil

David Gulpilil Ridjimiraril Dalaithngu AM (1 July 1953 – 29 November 2021) was an Australian actor and traditional Indigenous dancer. He was a Yolngu man. His acting career began in 1971. He was awarded the AACTA Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his roles in The Tracker (2002) and Charlie's Country (2014). His other acting credits include Walkabout (1971), Storm Boy (1976), The Last Wave (1977), Crocodile Dundee (1986), Crocodile Dundee II (1988), Rabbit-Proof Fence (2002), Ten Canoes (2006), Australia (2008) and the Storm Boy remake (2019).

Gulpilil was born in Arnhem Land, Northern Territory. He retired from acting in 2019 after being told he had lung cancer.[1] He died on 29 November 2021 in Murray Bridge, South Australia, aged 68.
