According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 37.3 sq mi (97 km²). 36.2 sq mi (94 km²) of this area is land and 1.1 sq mi (2.8 km²) of it is water. The total area is 3.03% water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 1,644 people, 651 households, and 451 families living in the township. The population density is 45.4 people per sq mi (17.5/km²). There are 842 housing units. The racial makeup of the township is 98.72% White, 0.12% African American, 0.18% Native American, 0.30% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.06% from other races, and 0.61% from two or more races. 0.12% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 651 households. Of these. 31.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.2% are married couples living together, 6.9% have a woman without a husband, and 30.6% are non-families. 27.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.47 and the average family size is 3.02.
