José Efraín Ríos Montt (Spanish pronunciation: [efɾaˈin ˈri.os ˈmont]; June 16, 1926 – April 1, 2018) was a Guatemalan politician. He was President of Guatemala from 1982 to 1983.[1] An army general, his time in office was marked by the Guatemalan Civil War. Years later, he served as president of Congress.

Ríos Montt died in Guatemala City on April 1, 2018 of a heart attack at the age of 91.[2]
