Howard Robert Horvitz (born May 8, 1947 in Chicago, Illinois) is an American biologist.
He is best known for the research he did on the nematode worm Caenorhabditis elegans and he won the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2002 for "for their discoveries concerning genetic regulation of organ development and programmed cell death". He shared the prize with Sydney Brenner and John E. Sulston.[1]
He earned a PhD in Biology from Harvard University in 1974.[1]
