Hansonism

Hansonism is a form of right-wing political ideology. It is based on the ideas of Pauline Hanson, the leader of the One Nation in Australia.

Ideology

Hansonism has been described as a form of right-wing populism. It believes that a "Multicultural Elite" manipulates "hardworking Australians" into supporting certain polices. These policies include indigenous land rights, welcome-to-country ceremonies, and rights for minority groups (including Aboriginal Australians). According to Hansonism, these policies are viewed as anti-equality and a form of reverse racism.

Hansonism supports economic nationalism and opposes economic rationalism. It supports the re-introduction of tariffs, government-run banks, and renewing and supporting local manufacturing It is critical of multinational cooperations.

Branches

In 1998, Kukathas and Maley identified two branches of Hansonism: Soft Hansonism and Hard Hansonism. Hard Hansonism directly supports things like anti-Asian sentiment, an attachment to the White Australia Policy and criticism of multiculturalism. Soft Hansonism's policies are milder or are promoted by non-One Nation members, like strong opposition to asylum seekers.
