Hyacinth Tungutalum

Hyacinth Gabriel Tungutalum (14 August 1946 – 7 April 2009) was an Australian politician. He was the first Indigenous Australian to be elected to a state or territory parliament. He was a member of the Country Liberal Party. From 1974 to 1977, he served as a member of the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly for Tiwi.[1]

Tungutalum was from the Tiwi Islands. He was married to Natalie and had two sons. On 7 April 2009, Tungutalum died of a heart attack at the age of 62.[2]
