Ian Charleson
Ian Charleson (11 August 1949 – 6 January 1990) was a Scottish actor and singer. He was best known for his starring role as Olympic athlete and missionary Eric Liddell, in the Oscar-winning 1981 movie Chariots of Fire. He was also well known for his role of Rev. Charlie Andrews in the 1982 Oscar-winning movie Gandhi. He was born in Edinburgh.
Charleson died on 6 January 1990 in London from AIDS, aged 40.[1]

Charleson performed often at the Edinburgh Festival and Fringe from 1967 to 1973.
At the National Theatre, in 1977 Charleson appeared in Julius Caesar, Volpone, and The Hunchback of Notre Dame. His acclaimed starring roles there were in Guys and Dolls, Fool for Love, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, and Hamlet, all in the 1980s.
