JD Souther
John David "JD" Souther (November 2, 1945 – September 17, 2024)[1] was an American singer-songwriter, guitarist and actor. He wrote and co-wrote songs recorded by Linda Ronstadt and Eagles.
Souther was known for writing songs for the Eagles, including "Best of My Love", "Victim of Love", "Heartache Tonight", and "New Kid in Town". He also wrote "How Long", "You're Only Lonely" and "Her Town Too".
Souther was born in Detroit, Michigan. He was raised in Amarillo, Texas and started his career at recording studios in Clovis, New Mexico and Los Angeles, California. His career began in 1965.
An actor, he had recurring television roles in Thirtysomething and Nashville. He played Ted in the movie Postcards from the Edge (1990).
Souther was married to Alexandra Sliwin from 1969 until they divorced in 1972. He then was married to Sarah Nicholson from 2004 until they divorced in 2010. He dated singers Linda Ronstadt, Stevie Nicks and Judee Sill.[2][3]
Souther died at his ranch in Sandia Park, New Mexico on September 17, 2024 at the age of 78.[4]
