James Salter

James Salter (born James Arnold Horowitz; June 10, 1925 – June 19, 2015) was an American novelist, short story writer, poet, screenwriter, and movie director. He was active between 1957 and 2013. His most noted novels were The Hunters (1957) and A Sport and a Pastime (1967). He also worked on the 1969 movies Downhill Racer (writing) and Three (directing).

Salter was born in New York City. He was married twice and had five children.

Salter died on June 19, 2015 in Sag Harbor, New York. He was 90.[1]
