Meenakshi Amman Temple

Meenakshi Amman Temple is a Hindu temple. It is located in Madurai, in Tamil Nadu. It is dedicated to Meenakshi, which is a local form of Parvati, and to Shiva. Local traditions say that the ttwo married in Madurai. Unlike other temples dedicated to Shiva, it is the godess Minkaski and not Shiva, which is the center of attention. The oldest parts of the temple date from the 12th or 13th cenrtury; most of it was built in the 16th and 17th century.
