Miguel Angel Cardona (born July 11, 1975) is an American educator. Cardona is the 12th and current United States Secretary of Education since 2021. He was the Connecticut Commissioner of Education from 2019 until 2021.

On December 22, 2020 President Joe Biden nominated Cardona to be the United States Secretary of Education in his cabinet.[1] He was confirmed by a vote of 64-33 on March 1, 2021.[2] He was sworn-in the next day.[3]

Cardona is from Meriden, Connecticut. He began his career as a fourth-grade teacher at Israel Putnam Elementary School in Meriden. In 2003, at the age of 27, he was named principal of Hanover School, also in Meriden, making him the youngest principal in the state.[4][5]
