The athletics teams of the university are called the UConn Huskies. They have 25 varsity teams, all competing in NCAA Division I and most in the Big East Conference. The Huskies have varying conference homes in sports not played by the Big East:
- Football plays as an independent (not in a conference) in the top level of NCAA football, Division I FBS.
- Men's and women's ice hockey play in Hockey East.
- Women's rowing competes in the Colonial Athletic Association.
UConn will shut down four of its teams at the end of the 2020–21 school year—men's teams in cross country, swimming & diving, and tennis, plus women's rowing.
