Oresteia is a Greek opera by Iannis Xenakis made in 1965 and 1966. The work is based on Oresteia by Aeschylus. It is made for a chorus and twelve instrument players and is 50 minutes.[1][2][3][4] Xenakis made two additional parts of the music in the 1980s and 1992.
Development
Most of the opera was finished in 1966. It was made for an event in Ypsilanti, Michigan.[3]
In the 1980s, Xenakis made a cantata for an additional part, named Kassandra.[5]
In 1992, Xenakis would make his last part, La Déesse Athéna (the goddess Athena).
Music and instrumentation
The opera is made for a children's chorus and twelve instrumentalists.[6]
