Philomena is a 2013 British drama movie directed by Stephen Frears, based on the 2009 non-fiction book The Lost Child of Philomena Lee by journalist Martin Sixsmith. The movie is about a news journalist who has just lost his job as Labour government adviser. The journalist meets an elderly Irish woman who has been searching for her son for 50 years and tries to help her find him. In the movie, Judi Dench plays Philomena Lee and Steve Coogan plays Martin. The movie’s screenplay was written by Coogan and Jeff Pope.

Philomena got positive reviews from critics and won several international film awards. Coogan and Jeff Pope won Best Screenplay at the 70th Venice International Film Festival,^[4]^[5]^[6] while the movie was also awarded the People's Choice Award Runner-Up prize at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival. The movie was nominated for four Oscars at the 86th Academy Awards: Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Actress (for Dench), and Best Original Score. It was also nominated for four BAFTA Awards and three Golden Globe Awards.
