List of political parties in France
This article lists political parties in France.
France has a multi-party system. No party can usually win a majority of seats in the National Assembly which means multiple parties often come together to form a coalition government.
For decades, most parties belonged to one of two coalitions: the centre-left (led by the Socialist Party) and the centre-right (led by Rally for the Republic and later the Union for a Popular Movement). In 2017, both coalitions suffered big defeats with the centrist Republique En Marche (now Renaissance) winning the election and the far-right National Rally making significant gains. In 2022, Renaissance won again and La France Insoumise (led by Jean-Luc Mélenchon) became the main left-wing party. Since the 2024 legislative election, the National Assembly has been split between three groups: the left-wing New Popular Front (led by La France Insoumise), the centrist Ensemble (led by Renaissance) and the far-right National Rally.
