Roswell Rudd

Roswell Hopkins Rudd Jr. (November 17, 1935 – December 21, 2017) was an American jazz trombonist and composer. He was born in Sharon, Connecticut. Although he worked in many genres of jazz (including Dixieland, which he performed while in college) and other genres of music, he was known primarily for his work in free and avant-garde jazz.

From 1962 until his death in 2017, Rudd had worked extensively with saxophonist Archie Shepp.[1] He was nominated for a Grammy Award in 1999.

Rudd died on December 21, 2017 of prostate cancer in Kerhonkson, New York at the age of 82.[2]
