Samastipur
Samastipur is a city and Municipal Corporation in the Mithila region of Bihar, India. It is the headquarters of Samastipur district and is part of Darbhanga division. The Burhi Gandak River flows through the city. Samastipur is an important railway hub and one of the five railway divisions of the East Central Railway (ECR), with Samastipur Junction railway station being among the busiest in North Bihar after Patna and Katihar.[3]

Demographics
As per the 2011 Indian Census,[4] Samastipur had a population of 62,935, of which 33,025 were males and 29,910 were females. The population in the 0–6 age group was 8,252. The literacy rate was 73.8% (male 77.2%, female 69.9%). The effective literacy rate of those aged 7+ was 84.9% (male 88.9%, female 80.4%). Scheduled Castes numbered 9,219 and Scheduled Tribes 249. There were 12,062 households.
Education
Samastipur has multiple schools and colleges, most affiliated with Lalit Narayan Mithila University, Darbhanga. The Dr. Rajendra Prasad Central Agricultural University is located nearby in Pusa, established in 1970 on the site of the former Pusa Institute built during the British era.
AHS Nursing College & Hospital (established 2023) is located on Tajpur Road and is affiliated with the Bihar University of Health Sciences and Bihar Nurses Registration Council.[5]
IGNOU also operates several study centres in the city.[6]
Transport
Road
The Bihar State Road Transport Corporation runs bus services to Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Uttar Pradesh.
Rail
Samastipur Junction railway station provides connectivity to most regions of India and is part of the ECR zone of Indian Railways.
