With her father retiring from politics, Duterte was seen as a possible candidate for either President of the Philippines or Vice President of the Philippines in the 2022 election. In November 2021, she announced her candidacy as vice president.[3] She is supported by the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas as their vice presidential candidate, making her the running mate of former Senator Bongbong Marcos.[4]

On October 9, 2021, Duterte tested positive for COVID-19.[5]
