Savoureuse

The Savoureuse is a river in eastern France; it is the principal river running through the Territoire de Belfort.

Geography

The Savoureuse has a length of 41.2 km (25.6 mi), and a drainage basin with an area of approximately 248 km² (96 sq mi).

Its average yearly discharge (volume of water which passes through a section of the river per unit of time) has been measured in three places:

1. Giromagny (1974 - 2017), at an altitude of 468 m (1,535 ft), with a discharge of 1.44 m³/s (51 cu ft/s);
2. Belfort (1965 - 2017), at an altitude of 357 m (1,171 ft), with a discharge of 4.23 m³/s (149 cu ft/s); and
3. Vieux-Charmont (1986 - 2017), at an altitude of 317 m (1,040 ft), with a discharge of 5.93 m³/s (209 cu ft/s);

Course

The source of the Savoureuse.

The Savoureuse starts on the Ballon d'Alsace, southern Vosges Mountains, in the commune of Lepuix, Territoire de Belfort department, at an elevation of about 1,190 m (3,904 ft).

It flows from north to south through the Territoire de Belfort department. At Nommay, the river gets into the Doubs department where it joins, in the commune of Étupes near the city of Sochaux, the Allaine river, a tributary of the Doubs river at about 317 m (1,040 ft) of altitude.

The Savoureuse flows through one region (Bourgogne-Franche-Comté), 2 departments and 18 communes:

• Territoire de Belfort: Lepuix, Giromagny, Chaux, Sermamagny, Valdoie, Belfort, Danjoutin, Andelnans, Botans, Sevenans, Bermont, Trevenans, Chatenois-les-Forges, Évette-Salbert, Rougegoutte
• Doubs: Nommay, Vieux-Charmont, Étupes
