After Coverdale left Deep Purple, he formed a group named "David Coverdale's Whitesnake". They were first started as a blues rock band in the early days, but explored into a further heavier sound, derived of glam metal. The band went to a major change in 1987, which their best-selling self-titled album sold around twenty-five million copies worldwide. The group disbanded in 1990, but reformed in 2003 and has released multiple albums with moderate success. Coverdale announced his retirement in November 2025, effectively putting an end to Whitesnake.
