Stephen Tataw
Stephen Tataw (31 March 1963 – 31 July 2020) was a Cameroonian football player. He played for Cameroon national team. Known for his tenacious defense and unwavering leadership, Tataw played every minute of Cameroon's vibrant campaign, showcasing his stamina and tactical acumen. Tataw's ability to manage crucial situations without receiving a yellow card throughout the tournament further highlighted his composure and discipline on the field. As captain, his legacy lives on as an inspiration to aspiring footballers in Cameroon and beyond. Regarded to be one of the best defenders in African football.

Club career
Tataw played professionally in Cameroon from 1981 to 1992 with Tonnerre Yaoundé and from 1992 to 1995 for Olympic Mvolyé. He won the state cup twice with both clubs. With Tonnerre, he also became Cameroonian champion in 1988. In 1995, Tataw became the first African player to move to Japan to play for second division Tosu Futures. In 1997, the club dissolved after the withdrawal of the main sponsor. Tataw then ended his playing career.
International career
On 16 December 1986, Tataw made his debut for the Cameroonian national team in a match against the Republic of Congo. He took part in three African Championships. In 1988, he won the title of African champion with his team. Two years later, Cameroon were eliminated as defending champions after the preliminary round. At the 1992 tournament, the team reached the semi-finals and finished fourth.
Tataw was also in the squad of the "Indomitable Lions" at the 1990 World Cup in Italy, which he led to the quarterfinals as team captain. He was also called up to the Cameroonian squad for the 1994 FIFA World Cup and played all three group games. Cameroon was eliminated with one draw and two defeats after the preliminary round. After the World Championships, Tataw ended his international career.
