This one by the Star public house is the bottom lock, and the bottom mitre gates are shown. The pub is a popular one, and there is usually an audience for any boaters working through the lock.
The Star Inn. An old canal inn by Stone bottom lock on the Trent and Mersey.*Various IA (industrial archaeology) books detail an old warehouse and basin that were off to the left on the other side of the Stafford Road Bridge. These have gone without trace. Indeed several items listed in W J Thompson's Industrial Archaeology of North Staffordshire have gone from Stone.
