Tom Seaver (born November 17, 1944) was a baseball player for the New York Mets, Cincinnati Reds, Chicago White Sox and Boston Red Sox. He was a pitcher. In his career he won more than 300 games. He won a World Series in 1969. His number was retired by the Mets. He is a member of the Baseball Hall of Fame.
On the Mets Seaver won a World Series in 1969 and a National League pennant in 1973. He won the Cy Young Award three times while he was with the Mets, in 1969, 1973 and 1975. The Cy Young Award is given to the best pitcher of the year in each league. He also won the Rookie of the Year award as the best first year player in the league in 1967.
Seaver led the National League in wins three times, in 1969 and 1975 with the Mets and in 1981 with the Reds. He led the National League in earned run average three times, in 1970, 1971 and 1973. He led the National League in strikeouts five times, in 1970, 1971, 1973, 1975 and 1976.
