The river starts at the confluence of the Biely Váh (White Váh) and the Čierny Váh (Black Váh), which rises in the Vysoké Tatry (High Tatras) and Nízke Tatry (Low Tatra) mountains. It flows over northern and western Slovakia and ends in the Danube near Komárno.
