Vianden (Luxembourgish: Veianen) is a canton in the north of Luxembourg. Its capital is Vianden.

History

On 1 January 2006, the communes of Bastendorf (in the Diekirch canton) and Fouhren were merged to form the commune of Tandel.[1]

Geography

Vianden is the smallest canton of Luxembourgh, with an area of 78.5 km2 (30.3 sq mi),[2] and a population (2017) of 5,162; it has a population density of 65.8 inhabitants/km².[3]

The canton has the Diekirch canton to the south, southwest and west; and the Clervaux canton to the northwest. To the east, it borders with the Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm district (Rhineland-Palatinate state), Germany.
