The Wadden Sea is a part of the North Sea. It is an intertidal zone, up to 40 kilometres (25 mi) wide. It runs from the Netherlands to the South of Denmark. It is up to 450 kilometres (280 mi) of coastline. The land that appears at low tide is called mudflat in English (and Watt in German). It is at the origin of the latter name.
