Western Thrace

Western Thrace, or Greek Thrace, is a geographical region of Greece. Administratively, it is part of the Periphery of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace. It is located in the northeastern part of Greece and borders the region of Macedonia in the west, the River Evros in the east, the Aegean Sea in the south, and the Rhodope Mountains in the north. Thrace is divided into three regional units, which atre former prefectures: Xanthi, Rhodope, and Evros.^[1]

A major Muslim minority lives here, including Turkish, Pomak, and Xoraxane Roma because they were not expelled by the population exchange between Greece and Turkey.^[2]
