Yi Hwang

In this Korean name, the family name is Yi.

Yi Hwang(1501 - 1570) was a Korean Joseon Dynasty Neo-Confucianism philosopher, politician, writer, and poet. He was one of the main people for the Party East Man and Party South Man.

The name he wrote under was Toigye or Toido. His courtesy name was Gyeongho.[1]

Toegyero, a street in central Seoul, is named after him.[2] His likeness is on the South Korean 1,000 won note.[3]
