Alemayehu Eshete

Alemayehu Eshete (Amharic: ዓለማየሁ እሸቴcode: am is deprecated ; French pronunciation: Alèmayèhu Eshèté; June 1941^[1] – 2 September 2021) was an Ethiopian jazz singer. His career began in the 1960s. Most of his music was in Amharic. He was nicknamed "the Ethiopian Elvis".^[2]^[3] Eshete was born in Jimma, Ethiopia. Eshete was popular in Europe with the release of Buda Musique's Ethiopiques series of compilations on compact disc.^[4]

Eshete died on 2 September 2021 in a hospital in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from a heart attack caused by heart disease at the age of 80.^[5]
