Arrondissement of Auxerre
The arrondissement of Auxerre is an arrondissement of France. It is part of the Yonne département in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region. Its capital, and prefecture of the department, is the city of Auxerre.

History
When the Yonne department was created on 17 February 1800, the arrondissement of Auxerre was part of that original department.[1]
Geography
The arrondissement of Auxerre is bordered to the north by the arrondissement of Sens, to the east by the arrondissement of Avallon, to the south by the Nièvre (Burgundy) department and to the west by the Loiret (Centre-Val de Loire) department.
It has an area of 3,514.6 km2 (1,357 sq mi),[2] the largest in area of the arrondissements of the department. It has 179,922 inhabitants and a population density of 51.2 inhabitants/km².[3]

After the reorganisation of the cantons in France,[4] cantons are not subdivisions of the arrondissements so they could have communes that belong to different arrondissements.
