The arrondissement of Perpignan is an arrondissement of France. It is part of the Pyrénées-Orientales département. Its capital is the city of Perpignan.

It is the second in area, after Prades, of the arrondissements of the department, with an area of 1,317 km2 (508 sq mi), but it is the first in population with 337765 inhabitants and a density of 256.5 inhabitants/km².[1]

History

When the Pyrénées-Orientales department was created on 17 February 1800, the arrondissement of Perpignan was part of that original department.[2]

Geography

The arrondissement is bordered to the north by the Aude (Languedoc-Rousillon) department, to the east by the Mediterranean Sea, to the south by the arrondissement of Céret and to the west by the arrondissement of Prades.
