The movie received positive reviews with a 88% on Rotten Tomatoes which is "certified fresh" and has a 79 rating out of 100 on Metacritic. The movie is based on the ballet, Swan Lake. The movie won the Academy Award for Best Actress, the BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role, the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress - Motion Picture Drama, the Broadcast Film Critics Association Award for Best Actress, and the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role for the movie.
