History

Before winning the 2024 general election, the Labour Party confirmed it would renationalise passenger services in Great Britain. Following the election, the Labour government introduced the Passenger Railway Services (Public Ownership) Act 2024 which was passed in November 2024.[2]

In December 2024, the government announced that the Trenitalia-owned operator c2c's contract would not be renewed after its expiration in July 2025. On 20 July 2025, services were taken over by the nationalised operator of the same name.[3]
