Diogo Jota

Diogo José Teixeira da Silva (4 December 1996 – 3 July 2025), commonly known as Diogo Jota, was a Portuguese footballer. He played as a winger for Premier League team Liverpool.

Jota was 28 years old when he and his brother, André Silva, were killed in a car crash in Cernadilla, Spain, on 3 July 2025.[3][4] Their funeral took place in Gondomar on 5 July 2025. Many people from the world of football attended, including Andrew Robertson and Virgil van Dijk, who carried floral tributes into the church.[5] A book of condolences was opened for others to write private messages which would go to the family.[source?]

Club
Jota played for F.C. Paços de Ferreira from 2014 until 2016, when he joined Atlético Madrid. He went on loan to FC Porto for the 2016–17 season, and to Wolverhampton Wanderers (Wolves) for 2017–18. He signed a contract with Wolves after the loan ended, and played for them until 2020. Liverpool signed him before the 2020–21 season, and he was part of their team which won the FA Premier League title in 2024–25.[source?]
