Ernst Stojaspal

Ernst Stojaspal (14 January 1925 – 3 April 2002) was an Austrian professional footballer. He was born in the Simmering district of Vienna. He played as forward or attacking midfielder .

Club career

He started his career with FC Strindberg, Mautner Markhof, 1. Simmeringer SC and Ostbahn XI. 1945/46 he started playing for Austria Wien. After 10 years he ha d won three league titles and two domestic cups. He was also topscorer of the league five times. After the 1954 World Cup, he moved to France and played for Racing Strasbourg, AS Béziers, AS Monaco, Troyes AC and FC Metz. Stojaspal scored 481 goals in 413 games for Austria Wien and scored 674 goals in his career, both including friendlies.[1][2]

In 2001, he was chosen in Austria Wiens Team of the Century.

International career

Stojaspal made his debut for Austria in December 1946 against Italy and played at the 1954 FIFA World Cup where he scored three goals in four matches.[3] The third-place playoff against Uruguay was his last international game. He played 32 matches and scored 15 goals.[4] He was also part of Austria's squad for the football tournament at the 1948 Summer Olympics, but he did not play in any matches.[5]

Retirement

Stojaspal later worked as a football coach in France. There he managed AC Ajaccio, AS Giraumont, FC Monthey and AS Athus. He died in Moulins-lès-Metz, France.
