Felix Baumgartner

Felix Baumgartner (de (20 April 1969 – 17 July 2025) was an Austrian skydiver, daredevil and BASE jumper.[1] He was known for jumping to Earth from a helium balloon from the stratosphere on 14 October 2012 and landing in New Mexico, United States, as part of the Red Bull Stratos project.

Baumgrartner held the world record for skydiving about 39 km (24 mi), reaching about the top speed of 1,357.64 km/h (843.6 mph), or Mach 1.25. He became the first person to break the sound barrier to the surface without the use of a vehicle.[2][3][4]

Baumgartner was killed during a paragliding accident on 17 July 2025 in Porto Sant'Elpidio, Italy at the age of 56.[5]
