Henry Sy

Henry Tan Chi Sieng Sy Sr. (Chinese: 施至成; pinyin: Shī Zhìchéng; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Si Chì-sêng; October 15, 1924 – January 19, 2019) was a Chinese-Filipino businessman and philanthropist. He was known as the "father of modern Philippine retail".[3] He developed ShoeMart into SM Investments, one of the largest malls in the Philippines. He also founded BDO Unibank and real estate.[3][4]

For eleven straight years until his death, Sy was named by Forbes as the richest person in the Philippines.[3] He died on January 19, 2019 from a heart attack, aged 94. His estimated net worth amounted to US$19 billion, which made him the 53rd richest person in the world.[4]
