Jalalabad
Jalalabad is the capital city of Nangarhar Province in eastern Afghanistan. Its 2025 population is around 200,331, which makes Jalalabad the fifth-largest city in Afghanistan.[1]
Trade importance
Jalalabad lies on a trade route from Kabul (the capital of Afghanistan) to Peshawar, Pakistan.[2] Because of its position, a lot of Afghanistan's trade with India and Pakistan goes through Jalalabad.[2]
People
Almost all residents of Jalalabad follow Sunni Islam.[3] However, there are also Hindu and Sikh minorities in the city.[3]
Industries
There is a large irrigated plain surrounding Jalalabad that produces fruit, almonds, rice, and grain.[2] The city has a sugarcane refinery and handicraft shops.[2]
