John Prine

John Prine (October 10, 1946 – April 7, 2020) was an American country folk singer-songwriter and guitarist. He was born in Maywood, Illinois but raised in Chicago.[1] His music was often seen as protest and social commentary. He began making music for Atlantic Records in 1971. In 1984 he co-founded Oh Boy Records, an independent record label. In 1992 and 2006, Prine won a Grammy Award.

Later life

In 1998, he was diagnosed with a form of melanoma in the neck.[2] In 2013, he discovered he had lung cancer.

On March 26, 2020, Prine was hospitalized with COVID-19. Two days later, his health was reported as critical.[3] On April 7, 2020, he died of the disease in Nashville, Tennessee. He was 73.[4]
