Kate Bornstein
Katherine Vandam "Kate" Bornstein (born March 15, 1948) is an American writer. She lives in New York City with her partner Barbara Carrellas. In 2012 she made a video for Dan Savage's It Gets Better Project. In August 2012 she was diagnosed with lung cancer.[1]
Bornstein was born in New Jersey to a Jewish family.[2]
In 1970 Bornstein joined the Church of Scientology.[3]
Bornstein does not feel male or female. She was born male. In 1986 she had sex reassignment surgery.[4] She has written books about gender. The most well-known one is Gender Outlaw.
