Nemrut (Turkish: Nemrut Dağı; Armenian: Սարակն, transliteration: Sarakn, meaning «Mountain spring»; Kurdish Çiyayê Nemrud) is a dormant volcano in Eastern Turkey, close to Lake Van, at 38°37′10″N 42°14′28″E / 38.61944°N 42.24111°E.

The caldera of Nemrut volcano has an oval shape, its diameter is 27×18 km. The caldera of Nemrut is the largest in Turkey, the fourth-largest in Europe and the sixteenth-largest in the world. The caldera has three volcanic crater lakes, the largest of which is Lake Nemrut with a surface area of 2.36 km2
The volcano is named after King Nimrod who is said to have ruled this area in about 2100 BC.
