Roman Yurievich Lyashenko (May 1, 1979 – July 7, 2003) was a Russian professional ice hockey centre. Lyashenko played two seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL). He played with the Dallas Stars and New York Rangers.
Before he played in the NHL, he played 3 seasons in the RSL with Yaroslavl Torpedo. He was drafted with the 52nd overall pick by the Dallas Stars in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft. He has also played 15 games in the IHL with the Michigan K-Wings and Utah Grizzlies, as well as playing 2 seasons in the AHL with the Utah Grizzlies and Hartford Wolf Pack.
On July 7, 2003, Lyashenko committed suicide while on vacation in Antalya, Turkey with his mother and sister. Turkish police said that Lyashenko left a suicide note and tried to cut his wrists and arms before he hung himself. Glen Sather, general manager of the New York Rangers said "Roman was a quality individual who had a positive impact on everyone he touched, both on and off the ice." Dallas Stars general manager Doug Armstrong also said: "Roman was a quality young man who we were privileged to have in our organization for three years." Lyashenko was buried in Yaroslavl on July 12, 2003.
