St. Catherines Island is an island off the coast of the U.S. state of Georgia, 50 miles (80 km) south of Savannah. About half the island is marshland and swamp.[1] The island is owned by the St. Catherines Island Foundation, and is not open to the public.[1] It covers an area of 14,640 acres (5,920 ha).[1]

This boneyard was created by the ever-shifting coastline that has encroached upon the tree-line of the maritime forest of St. Catherines Island, 10 mi. off the GA coast between St. Catherines Sound and Sapelo Sound, Liberty County, Ga.
