Thayer is a city in Neosho County, Kansas, United States. In 2010 census, 497 people lived there.[6]

History

Thayer was planned out in the fall of 1870. This is when the railroad was extended to that point.[7][8] It was named after Nathaniel Thayer, a railroad employee.[9][10] The town was built up quickly and was incorporated as a city in 1871.[11]

Geography

Thayer is at 37°29′14″N 95°28′34″W / 37.48722°N 95.47611°W / 37.48722; -95.47611 (37.487127, -95.476237).[12] The United States Census Bureau says that the city has a total area of 0.80 square miles (2.07 km2). Of that, 0.75 square miles (1.94 km2) is land and 0.05 square miles (0.13 km2) is water.[1]

Weather

Thayer has hot, humid summers and generally mild to cool winters. The Köppen Climate Classification system says that Thayer has a humid subtropical climate, abbreviated "Cfa" on climate maps.[13]

The 2010 census says that there were 497 people, 197 households, and 136 families living in Thayer.[2]
