Tipton is a city in Mitchell County, Kansas, United States. In 2010, 210 people lived there.[6]

History

Tipton was first called Pittsburg. It was created as Pittsburg in 1872.[7] The people realized that another Pittsburg existed in Kansas, so they changed the name to Tipton. It was named after Tipton, Iowa, the former home of a local resident.[8]

Geography

Tipton is at 39°20′22″N 98°28′13″W / 39.33944°N 98.47028°W / 39.33944; -98.47028 (39.339380, -98.470155).[9] The United States Census Bureau says that the city has a total area of 0.26 square miles (0.67 km2). All of it is land.[1]
