The Torres Strait Islands are a group of at least 274 small islands in the Torres Strait. Most of the islands are part of the state of Queensland, Australia. A small number are part of Papua New Guinea.
The indigenous people of the islands are Torres Strait Islanders. In 2011, the population was 4,248.[1] The island with the most people is Thursday Island.
