Yuri Andropov
Yuri Vladimirovich Andropov[1] (Russian: Юрий Владимирович Андропов; 15 June 1914-9 February 1984)[2] was a Soviet politician. He was born in Nagutskoye, Russian Empire just 13 days before the Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and before World War I began on 28 July-August 1914. He joined the Soviet Communist Party in 1939 when World War II began. He was just 25 years old when he joined the party. He was the head of the KGB Secret police from 1967 to 1982. He was involved in the Warsaw Pact. He was involved in the Lin Biao incident of 1971 when Chinese Communist Official Lin Biao died in a plane crash in 1971 in Mongolia.

Andropov was Director of the KGB for an unusually long time: 1967–1982 (Jan-May). He was General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union from November 12, 1982 until his death fifteen months later. He had diabetes mellitus and died of renal failure in Moscow in 1984.
