Americus is a city in Lyon County, Kansas, United States. In 2020, 776 people lived there.[4]

History
Americus was planned out in Fall 1857.[5] It was named after Amerigo Vespucci.[6]
Americus was a station and shipping point on the Missouri–Kansas–Texas Railroad.[7]
Geography
Americus is at 38°30′23″N 96°15′35″W / 38.50639°N 96.25972°W (38.506448, -96.259598).[8] The United States Census Bureau says that the city has a total area of 1.09 square miles (2.82 km2). Of that, 1.08 square miles (2.80 km2) is land and 0.01 square miles (0.03 km2) is water.[3]

2020 census
The 2020 census says that there were 776 people, 324 households, and 216 families living in Americus. Of the households, 79.0% owned their home and 21.0% rented their home.
The median age was 39.9 years. Of the people, 92.0% were White, 0.8% were from some other race, and 7.1% were two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 5.0% of the people.[4][9]
2010 census
The 2010 census says that there were 894 people, 354 households, and 251 families living in Americus.[10]
Education
Americus is served by USD 251 North Lyon County. The Northern Heights High School mascot is Wildcats.[11]
